Lecornu announces €50 million for rural towns and help for isolated fuel stations

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced €50 million for about 9,000 rural communes at a meeting of rural mayors in Auch, in the Gers.

The money is intended to help towns maintain roads, paths and natural areas, even where fewer residents share the cost.

It is separate from a planned €150 million increase in central government funding for local authorities in the 2027 budget.

Lecornu also promised tailored help for isolated fuel stations, which are especially affected by rising fuel prices.

Local authorities will contact 339 stations to account for their supply constraints and help them pass on an expected diesel price drop of 12 to 18 cents per litre.

The expected drop follows the release of 10 million barrels of diesel from strategic reserves over three months.

Lecornu is due to meet fuel distributors on Monday to discuss the measures.
