Mélenchon calls for abolishing Parcoursup and voting rights at 16

Jean-Luc Mélenchon spoke at a crowded presidential campaign rally in Clermont-Ferrand, France, on 11 October 2026.

His party said more than 10,000 people attended, and some could not get inside.

Speaking amid anger among high school students, he blamed Parcoursup, France’s platform for post-secondary study applications, for problems in schools.

He said he wanted to abolish the platform.

Mélenchon also called for voting rights to begin at age 16, arguing that young people should be able to take part as citizens.

His opponents, including Gabriel Attal, accused him of exploiting students’ anger.

He ended the rally by promising to restore retirement at age 60.
