Beckum holds funeral for baby found dead in September

More than 100 people attended the burial of baby Alina in Beckum, Germany, on Tuesday.

Passersby found the baby dead beside a path on September 26, wrapped in a sauna towel inside a grey shopping bag.

Investigators gave the girl the name Alina, but her identity and family remain unknown.

An autopsy did not establish a clear cause of death.

Police are asking for help identifying her mother, who may be in distress and need support.

A representative of a social service said the circumstances behind the baby's death remain unknown and that any explanation is speculation.

She also pointed to anonymous birth and adoption as ways to provide care for an unwanted child.
