UN rights chief calls US sanctions against ICC unacceptable
The United States announced new sanctions against the International Criminal Court, saying they aim to limit its ability to operate.
UN rights chief Volker Türk called the measures unacceptable and urged countries to defend the court’s independence.
He warned that sanctions could discourage people who work with the court to seek justice.
He said accountability helps prevent violence and suffering.
