Sakha and Korean film groups agree to develop co-productions
The Sakha Filmmakers Association and the Producers Guild of Korea have signed an agreement to build links between their film industries.
The agreement was signed at the Asian Contents & Film Market in Busan.
Sakha, also known as Yakutia, is a region in Russia’s Far East with a film industry that often makes movies in the Sakha language.
Its films have gained growing attention at festivals and markets in Asia and elsewhere.
The two groups plan to help producers develop projects together and share information about public funding in both territories.
They also plan showcases, meetings and business sessions to find projects that could work as international co-productions.
The partnership is intended to help Sakha projects reach wider audiences, and the groups plan to take it to markets in Busan, Hong Kong and Cannes.

Sakha cinema is one of the most distinctive voices to emerge in Asia in recent years, and it belongs in the conversation among Asian producers.
Through this MOU, PGK and SFA open a direct channel between our two production communities – one that we intend to turn into actual co-productions.
Korea is an important example of how a strong local identity can connect with audiences around the world.
We want it to lead not only to exchange, but to projects developed and produced together, and to a lasting connection between our filmmaking communities.
