Bank Indonesia Says Rp68 Trillion in Incentives Supported 115,600 Homes
Bank Indonesia says about Rp68 trillion of its Rp118 trillion in liquidity incentives went to housing projects linked to government programs in June and July.
The funding supported construction of up to 115,600 homes in Indonesia.
The central bank says each home can involve about four workers directly, so the projects may support hundreds of thousands of jobs.
Building homes can also increase demand for materials, transport and nearby small businesses.
The incentives are part of a policy that gives eligible banks more room to lend to priority sectors, including housing.
Banks receive this room through a reduction in the reserves they must keep at the central bank.
The indirect effects on jobs and businesses still need more detailed calculation.
Bank Indonesia said about Rp68 trillion of its liquidity incentives went to government-linked housing programmes.
The funding supported the construction of up to 115,600 homes, Governor Destry Damayanti said.
BI said its total incentive distribution was Rp118 trillion during June and July.
Destry said each home could involve about four direct workers, while indirect job effects still need detailed assessment.
The incentives are part of BI’s macroprudential liquidity policy, which gives eligible banks room to support lending to priority sectors.

This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.

The direct effect is something we can see immediately: four times around 115,000. The indirect effect can be calculated in detail, but of course that will take time.
