Why the Xbox Series S costs less than the Series X

Why the Xbox Series S costs less than the Series X

Microsoft sells two Xbox consoles: the Series S and the more powerful Series X. Both have become more expensive since launch, but the Series S remains the more affordable option.

The Series S has no disc drive, so players must buy or access games digitally.

Its base model has 512GB of storage, compared with 1TB in the Series X. The Series X has three times the processing power and targets native 4K, while the Series S reaches up to 1440p in most games.

Both consoles can run compatible games at up to 120 frames per second, but the Series S is also about 60 percent smaller.

The S may suit people who are happy with digital games and lower resolution, while the X is better for those who want discs or stronger performance.
