LineageOS 24 upgrades to Android 17 and adds support for 24 devices
LineageOS, an open-source operating system for phones and other devices, has released version 24 based on Android 17.
The project is not trying to leave Android behind; it aims to offer Android without as many Google services, preinstalled apps or manufacturer changes.
Version 24 includes security patches, and the team is also adding available patches to older LineageOS versions.
It adds Canvas, a basic image editor, and makes the Twelve music app load large music libraries faster.
Catapult, the Android TV launcher, now shows a battery indicator on mobile devices.
The update also adds support for 24 more devices, though app availability depends on whether a device is supported.
Most apps should work, but apps that rely heavily on Google services may have problems.
