Russia’s third-quarter inflation came in slightly above expectations

Russia’s inflation in the third quarter was slightly higher than expected, a central bank official said.

Deputy Governor Alexey Zabotkin said September did not show a clear strengthening of inflation pressure, and price growth was lower than in July and August when adjusted for seasonal effects.

Annual inflation rose to 6.35% in September, up from 6.33% at the end of August, according to Russia’s statistics agency.

In July, the central bank had expected inflation for the quarter to be 6.3%.

The central bank will factor in the higher inflation background when it revises its forecast on October 23.

Its July forecast put inflation at 6% to 7% for all of 2026.

But compared with the July forecast, the third quarter as a whole probably turned out somewhat higher in terms of the inflation background, and this will be taken into account when the forecast is updated on October 23
