Golden Week tourists visit Shenzhen market for lower-priced gold jewellery
Shenzhen’s Shuibei district is a major gold and jewellery trading hub.
During China’s National Day holiday, more shoppers came to buy jewellery, including visitors from other provinces.
One seller said gold prices had dropped to about 945 yuan per gram on Wednesday, from more than 1,000 yuan the week before.
Lower prices helped make the market an attraction for holiday shoppers.
Tourists visited Shenzhen’s Shuibei district during China’s week-long National Day holiday to buy gold jewellery at lower prices.
Gold seller Xiao Lei said customer traffic at her shop had risen sharply during the holiday.
She said Shuibei’s gold price had fallen from more than 1,000 yuan per gram the previous week to about 945 yuan on Wednesday.
Xiao said visitors included tourists from Jiangsu and Zhejiang, while most customers were young people from Guangdong.
Shuibei is one of China’s largest wholesale hubs for gold and jewellery.
