Faint northern lights appear over Switzerland
Faint northern lights were visible in parts of Switzerland on Saturday evening.
Several MeteoSwiss webcams captured the lights, including one on the Torrent mountain near Leukerbad.
Meteorologist Daniel Gerstgrasser said they were weak but clearly visible.
Northern lights form when electrically charged particles from the Sun reach Earth.
The particles are guided by Earth’s magnetic field towards the poles, where they interact with oxygen and nitrogen in the atmosphere and produce light.
Strong solar activity can make the lights visible as far south as Switzerland.
