PayPal appoints Marcelo Campos to lead its business in Spain

PayPal has appointed Marcelo Campos to lead its business in Spain.

He replaces Beatriz Giménez, who resigned in May for personal reasons.

Campos most recently led growth at BBVA’s Openpay, a payment-processing platform, and has more than 30 years of experience in the payments industry.

He also worked at PayPal in Spain from 2005 to 2012, first as general manager and later in marketing.

PayPal has nearly seven million customers in Spain, including individuals and businesses.

The company faces growing competition from fintech firms and digital banks, while its global chief executive is seeking to boost sales and simplify operations.

PayPal is considering offering financing to businesses and merchants in Spain, building on payment services it already provides in other countries.
