Former Jiangxi official Hu Youtao sentenced to 13 years for bribery

Hu Youtao, a former senior official in Jiangxi province, has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for bribery.

The Wenzhou Intermediate People’s Court in Zhejiang province also fined him 3 million yuan.

The court found that from 1997 to 2025, he used his official positions to help people and organizations with construction contracts, business matters and job changes.

In return, he took money and other property worth more than 43.64 million yuan.

Hu held several senior posts, including vice governor of Jiangxi and vice chairman of the province’s political advisory body, and left office in 2018.

The court said he admitted his crimes, cooperated with investigators and returned assets, which were grounds for a lighter sentence.

Most of the proceeds have been recovered, and authorities will continue to collect any remaining amount.
