Icheon renews plan to turn facilities agency into urban corporation
Icheon, a city in South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province, is again considering turning its facilities management agency into an urban corporation.
The city says the new body could manage public facilities and keep more profits from local development projects in the community.
Icheon has commissioned an outside organization to assess whether the change is viable, and it is also asking residents for their views.
The study is due to finish by the end of this year.
If it finds the plan viable, the city intends to seek council approval and pass an ordinance before establishing the corporation next July.
Icheon tried to create an urban corporation in 2019 to support development around rail stations, but stopped the plan amid concerns about risks.
