Kenya urges Ebola awareness after imported case dies in Nairobi
A 40-year-old man with Ebola died in Nairobi on Monday after travelling from the Democratic Republic of Congo through Uganda to Kenya.
Africa CDC said his temperatures were normal at screening points along the way, and his symptoms included skin infections, a sore throat and feeling unwell.
Kenya says the case was imported and has not described it as a local outbreak.
Health officials are tracing people who may have come into contact with him and increasing surveillance at entry points.
The Health Ministry is asking churches to help share prevention advice and encourage people with symptoms to seek care quickly.
Ebola can spread through direct contact with an infected person’s bodily fluids or contaminated items such as clothing and bedding.
Officials have set up an emergency hotline, urged people to follow official health guidance and said the government is preparing for possible isolation and treatment.
