EU to study options for an extra tax on energy companies’ profits
Six EU countries want to tax unusually high profits made by oil and energy companies when energy prices rise.
EU finance ministers agreed that experts and the European Commission should study possible approaches.
This is only a review, not a decision to introduce a tax.
Countries disagree over whether any tax should be set across the EU or by each country, so an EU-wide plan is uncertain.
