London hosts Frieze Week and major modern and contemporary art auctions
London’s Frieze Week runs from October 14 to 18, bringing together Frieze London and Frieze Masters.
The two fairs feature nearly 300 galleries from 48 countries, covering contemporary art as well as work from earlier periods.
Frieze London includes established galleries and exhibitors from Southeast Asia and the Middle East, as buyers from Asia are increasingly coming to London.
Frieze Masters includes a larger-than-usual section focused on 20th-century artists whose work has not been fully recognised.
A new fair-wide project also highlights artists often overlooked in traditional accounts of modernism.
Frieze Sculpture adds 11 works to Regent’s Park through November 1.
Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Phillips are also holding modern and contemporary art auctions during the week, with Christie’s and Sotheby’s offering works by artists including Piet Mondrian, Wassily Kandinsky, Francis Bacon and Willem de Kooning.
