Srisailam Dam Project earns place in World Book of Records

The Srisailam Dam Project has earned a place in the World Book of Records for its engineering features and resilience.

Officials said it is the first project in India to receive this distinction.

Construction began in 1960 and was completed in 1980.

The project supports irrigation and hydropower generation.

Its crest gates measure 60 by 55 feet, and it withstood a major flood on the Krishna River in 2009, when inflow reached 2.54 million cusecs.

The recognition highlights the dam’s engineering and ability to withstand floods.

The certificate was presented to Srisailam MLA Budda Rajasekhara Reddy, and no further action was announced.
