Two migrant workers die after suspected gas inhalation on fishing boat in Kozhikode

Two migrant workers from West Bengal have died after reportedly inhaling toxic gas on a fishing boat at Beypore harbour in Kozhikode, Kerala.

Sachin Das died on October 11 while receiving treatment; Dilip Sur died earlier.

The incident happened on October 9, when the two workers were collecting stock from the boat’s storeroom.

Authorities suspect that a lack of fresh air in the enclosed space caused them to lose consciousness.

Rescue workers found them motionless and gave them CPR while they were taken to hospital.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel helped coordinate the rescue and warned fishers to take care in similar situations.

Two other fishermen died in a suspected toxic smoke inhalation incident near Beypore harbour in April 2026.
