Panel urges annual audits and stronger safeguards for India’s entrance exams
A parliamentary committee in India has recommended changes to the National Testing Agency, which runs major entrance exams including NEET, JEE-Main and CUET.
The committee made its recommendations after NEET-UG 2026 was cancelled on May 12, following allegations that about 120 questions matched questions in a guess paper.
The exam was held again on June 21.
The panel wants the agency to publish annual data on who registers and succeeds, broken down by state and other categories, so gaps in outcomes can be identified.
It also called for clearer results, faster complaint handling and possible compensation for candidates affected by administrative cancellations.
The panel proposed rules for coaching centres and asked the agency to study changes such as a two-stage exam and a gradual move to computer-based testing.
These are recommendations in a report submitted to the Rajya Sabha on October 9; the report does not say whether they will be adopted.
