Onam Rush Lifts KSRTC Revenue and Ridership
Many people in Kerala travelled by bus during the Onam holidays.
The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation added more buses to manage the crowds.
On Chathayam day, almost 2.2 million passengers used its buses.
The corporation collected Rs 8.07 crore that day, its highest collection during the reported period.
A free-ticket program for women accounted for Rs 2.30 crore of that amount.
Passenger numbers and earnings were also higher on Uthradam, Thiruvonam and Avittam than on the same days last year.
KSRTC said it planned extra services after identifying the busiest days.
It also said the planning helped people travel safely and avoid very high fares.
KSRTC recorded a record Rs 8.07 crore collection on Chathayam day, with 3,787 buses carrying 22,02,992 passengers.
The Priyadarshini free-ticket scheme for women contributed Rs 2.30 crore to the Chathayam collection.
On Uthradam day, 21,45,267 passengers travelled, generating Rs 7,88,69,469, including Rs 2,04,31,007 through the scheme.
Passenger numbers and revenue on Uthradam, Thiruvonam and Avittam all exceeded the corresponding figures from last year.
KSRTC said advance planning, additional buses and more interstate services improved travel and avoided exorbitant fares during the rush.
