Many people in Kerala travelled by bus during the Onam holidays.

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation added more buses to manage the crowds.

On Chathayam day, almost 2.2 million passengers used its buses.

The corporation collected Rs 8.07 crore that day, its highest collection during the reported period.

A free-ticket program for women accounted for Rs 2.30 crore of that amount.

Passenger numbers and earnings were also higher on Uthradam, Thiruvonam and Avittam than on the same days last year.

KSRTC said it planned extra services after identifying the busiest days.

It also said the planning helped people travel safely and avoid very high fares.
