Northeast Frontier Railway Plans New Harangajao Line Restoration
New Harangajao railway station has been having problems with the ground under its tracks.
The ground has been sinking and moving sideways since 20 July 2026.
Water from a hillside has collected beneath the railway formation and made it unstable.
For safety, trains are currently using only Line No.
3.
Railway workers are repairing and strengthening the affected area.
About 500 people are working around the clock.
They are also using excavators, JCBs, tractors and special drilling equipment.
Line No.
2 is expected to reopen by 5 September 2026.
Line No.
1 is expected to reopen by the end of September 2026.
Northeast Frontier Railway expects to restore Line No. 2 at New Harangajao station by 5 September 2026.
Line No. 1 is expected to be restored by the end of September 2026.
Train movements have been restricted to Line No. 3 since 20 July 2026 for passenger safety.
About 500 personnel and extensive heavy machinery are working continuously on restoration efforts.
The disruption was attributed to water accumulation caused by changes in the local drainage pattern and a shifted natural watercourse.
