Northeast Frontier Railway Restores Katakhal-Bairabi Rail Line After Heavy Rainfall
Heavy rain damaged part of a railway line near Bairabi.
The damage affected about 70 metres of track.
Train services had to stop while the railway was repaired.
Northeast Frontier Railway sent workers, machines and materials to the site.
The ground was unstable and the weather remained difficult.
Workers operated day and night to rebuild and strengthen the damaged area.
A test train passed safely on 12 September 2026.
Regular train services will begin returning in stages from 13 September.
Northeast Frontier Railway restored the affected Jamira-Bairabi stretch on 12 September 2026.
Heavy rainfall on 3 September caused soil erosion affecting about 70 metres of track.
The erosion extended up to 40 metres from the track centre, suspending train services temporarily.
A locomotive-and-coach trial run at 16:30 confirmed the restored stretch was safe for trains.
Train services will resume in phases from 13 September, with passengers advised to check updated timings.
