GVMC Launches Smart Street Vending Zones
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is creating special areas called Smart Street Vending Zones for street vendors.
These zones will have nice, clean stalls with lights, trash management, and cameras to keep everyone safe.
The project costs a lot of money, and the government, a group called MEPMA, and the vendors themselves will all help pay for it.
The first zones will be in places like Madhurawada and near the Duvvada flyover.
Vendors will get training and special certificates to help them sell their things better.
This project is meant to make the city look nice and help vendors earn a good living.
GVMC is establishing Smart Street Vending Zones to provide organized and vendor-friendly alternatives to roadside vending.
The project is part of Operation LUNGS 2.0, which aims to clear encroachments and improve traffic flow while uplifting street vendors.
The initiative is rooted in the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014.
The total investment for the project is Rs 1,425 crore, with contributions from GVMC, MEPMA, the Government of Andhra Pradesh, and the vendors.
The Smart Street Vending Zones will feature modular kiosks, solar lighting, waste management, CCTV surveillance, and skill development programs.
