He stepped on an explosive device while returning through the Karreguttalu hills.

The blast badly injured him.

His companions used clothes and a wooden carrier to take him through the forest.

They tried to reach a safer place, but he died before getting there.

Police later brought his body to a government hospital for an examination.

The hills had recently been declared free of Maoist activity.

Police are checking who planted the explosive and when it was placed.
