Karnataka Cabinet Recognises Tulu as Second Official Language

The Karnataka Cabinet has decided to officially recognise Tulu.

Tulu is spoken by people in Karnataka’s coastal region and elsewhere.

Taranath Gatti Kapikad called the decision historic.

He thanked the chief minister, ministers and legislators who supported it.

He also thanked Tulu groups in India and abroad.

A committee had studied how Andhra Pradesh granted official status to Urdu.

Supporters believe recognition will help develop the Tulu language.

They also hope it will support Tulu’s inclusion in the Constitution’s Eighth Schedule.
