Volkswagen is launching two electric bicycles with technology usually associated with cars.

A camera shows riders what is behind them on a small display near the handlebars.

Radar can warn about vehicles approaching from behind or entering blind spots.

The bikes are meant to help cyclists feel safer in traffic.

They are being made by a bicycle company called n+ under licence from Volkswagen.

Both use a Yamaha motor and can assist pedaling up to 25 kilometers per hour.

They can travel up to 162 kilometers under suitable conditions.

The bikes cost several thousand pounds, and the extra helmet and glasses cost more.

Buyers will have to decide whether the safety technology is worth the high price.
