Kerala announces relief package as monsoon toll reaches 26

Kerala is a place in India where it rains very hard every year during the rainy season.

This year the rain was so strong that it caused floods and landslides.

Sadly, 26 people lost their lives, 11 people were hurt, and 4 people are still missing.

Many families had to leave their homes because the water was dangerous.

Right now, 27,048 people are staying in 462 special shelters called relief camps.

The leader of Kerala, Chief Minister V D Satheesan, announced a plan to help these families.

The government will give Rs 8 lakh to the family of each person who died, using money from three different government funds.

Farmers also lost their crops on 1,882 hectares of land, and the government thinks the damage is worth at least Rs 67.44 crore.

The government is still counting the damage, so the final numbers may be bigger.
