Bar Council of Delhi Sets Voter Eligibility for 2026 Elections
The Bar Council of Delhi has announced who can vote in their upcoming elections.
To vote, you must be a lawyer who was temporarily registered, passed the All India Bar Exam, and submitted a form by November 30, 2025.
Even if your exam results were delayed but you passed later, you can still vote.
The council made this announcement because the court said they had to.
A group of lawyers had asked the court to let them vote, and the court agreed.
The council also had a meeting to discuss these requests.
This is important because it makes sure that the council, which is supposed to stand for fairness and democracy, follows these principles in its own elections.
Advocates provisionally enrolled, AIBE-qualified, and submitted verification forms by November 30, 2025, are eligible to vote in the Bar Council of Delhi elections.
Those with deferred AIBE results who later qualified are also included in the voters' list.
The notice was issued on January 14, 2026, in compliance with a Delhi High Court order dated January 7, 2026.
A special committee met on January 9, 2026, to deliberate on petitioners' representations for inclusion in the electoral roll.
Senior advocate Vikas Pahwa represented the petitioners, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic values within the legal profession.
