Ceremonial couture - Telegraph India · telegraphindia.com

Arpita Mehta is a fashion designer who makes beautiful clothes for weddings.

She started her own label in 2009.

This year she showed her very first big wedding collection, called Ceremonial.

It was part of a fashion event in India called Hyundai India Couture Week.

She used lots of traditional Indian fabrics like bandhni, Benarasi and tissue.

She even tried a type of thread embroidery called kantha for the first time.

Her clothes came in soft colours like sage green and seafoam, and deeper shades like violet and sindoor red.

She showed long skirts called lehngas, flowing sarees, corseted blouses and stylish drapes.

Arpita thinks brides today want outfits that are luxurious and beautiful but also comfy enough to enjoy long celebrations.

She says the best outfit is one that feels like you and carries beautiful craftsmanship and memories.

Quotes

Arpita Mehta

Founder and designer of the fashion label established in 2009

“For me, it felt like a natural progression rather than a completely new beginning. Over the years, we have built a strong relationship with couture through our brides, their families and the craft languages that have become part of our identity. Ceremonial was an opportunity to bring all of those conversations together, to look at the world we have created and present it as one complete expression.”
