Supreme Court to hear NBCC's RERA exemption plea for Supertech
Some people bought homes in buildings made by a company called Supertech.
But the company ran out of money, and the homes were never finished.
A government company called NBCC was asked to finish building them.
NBCC asked the court if it could skip some rules called RERA while doing the work.
A lower court said no, saying it could not make that decision.
So NBCC went to the Supreme Court, the highest court in India.
The Supreme Court agreed to listen to NBCC's request.
The judges will talk about it again on September 24.
About 27,000 families are still waiting for their homes.
The court wants to make sure the homes get built.
The Supreme Court agreed to hear NBCC's plea against the NCLAT order refusing RERA exemption for completing 16 stalled Supertech housing projects.
The bench issued notice to the Centre and Supertech's ex-director Ram Kishor Arora, posting the matter for hearing on September 24.
NCLAT had refused the RERA waiver on May 22, saying it was not competent to grant exemption from statutory provisions.
The 16 projects comprise 49,748 homes across Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana and Karnataka, with about 27,000 homebuyers awaiting delivery.
NBCC proposed a three-phase completion plan for projects in the NCR, Dehradun and Bengaluru; Supertech's insolvency proceedings began in March 2021.
