The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation has started a month-long programme for girls in its schools.

It is part of the corporation’s Seva Sankalp campaign.

Students will learn about the harms of drug and substance use.

They will also see and practise basic karate and self-defence techniques.

The programme is intended to help girls feel more confident and prepared if they face a difficult situation.

It is being run with the Women’s Welfare Foundation.

About 300 girls in Kalyan and 300 in Dombivli are expected to take part.
