9 women CEOs, 25 MDs among India's top 500 companies

In India, leaders meet in a big building called the Parliament to discuss important things about the country.

One leader asked a question: how many women are the top bosses of India's biggest companies?

The government looked at the 500 biggest companies in India.

They found that only 9 of them have a woman as chief executive officer, the top boss.

Only 25 companies have a woman as managing director, another kind of top leader.

There are also only 67 women executive directors and 22 women chief financial officers, who look after company money.

That means out of 500 very big companies, very few have women in the most important jobs.

The government shared these numbers in the Parliament on Monday.

It also said it has not studied what makes it hard for women to reach these jobs.

These numbers matter because they show how few women get the chance to lead big companies.
