Andhra Pradesh Plans Subsidised Tur Dal and Palm Oil Sales
The Andhra Pradesh government wants to help families pay less for important foods.
It is already selling onions for ₹35 per kilogram at special markets.
Soon, people may also buy cheaper tur dal and palm oil through ration shops.
Each person can buy up to two kilograms of the subsidised onions.
The government says onion prices in regular markets have gone above ₹70 per kilogram.
It says there are enough rice and foodgrain stocks for the next three years.
Officials will check that nobody hides food or sells it illegally.
The government also plans to improve the quality of onions supplied to these markets.
Andhra Pradesh will sell tur dal and palm oil at subsidised prices through ration shops.
Subsidised onions are being sold at ₹35 per kilogram at all 115 Rythu bazaars.
Consumers can buy up to two kilograms of onions using Aadhaar authentication.
The Centre has agreed to supply 1.20 lakh metric tonnes of tur dal to the state.
Officials will monitor hoarding and black-market diversion of foodgrains and essential commodities.
