World Coconut Day: Tamil Nadu Leads India’s Top Coconut Producers
India grows many coconuts and is one of the world’s biggest coconut producers.
In 2024-2025, Indian farmers harvested more than 20 billion coconuts.
Tamil Nadu grew the most coconuts among Indian states.
Karnataka came second, followed closely by Kerala.
Andhra Pradesh grew fewer coconuts overall but produced the most coconuts per hectare.
West Bengal and Odisha were also among the listed producers.
A hectare is a large area of land used to measure farms.
The figures come from India’s Coconut Development Board.
India produced 20,301.22 million coconuts across 2.19 million hectares in 2024-2025.
Tamil Nadu led production with 6,251.94 million nuts harvested from 505.53 thousand hectares.
Karnataka ranked second with 5,488.40 million nuts and 9,135 nuts per hectare.
Kerala produced 5,149.87 million nuts, while Andhra Pradesh harvested 1,735.94 million.
Andhra Pradesh recorded the highest productivity among the listed states at 16,002 nuts per hectare.
