India Joins Pakistan-Hosted SCO Talks Despite Bilateral Tensions
India and Pakistan have disagreements, but both countries belong to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
Pakistan is now leading the group for its rotating term.
India sent Alok Dimri to a three-day meeting in Islamabad.
The meeting is helping plan events and meetings for Pakistan’s term.
It will also help prepare for a larger SCO leaders’ summit in August 2027.
Pakistan says it wants to improve connections, innovation, economic cooperation and people-to-people ties.
India has not said whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the larger summit.
India’s participation shows that it is continuing some cooperation with Pakistan through the SCO.
India’s SCO National Coordinator Alok Dimri attended the bloc’s first national coordinators’ meeting under Pakistan’s presidency.
The three-day meeting is being held in Islamabad from September 28 to 30 and is chaired by Pakistan’s Mohammad Faisal.
Participants are coordinating Pakistan’s SCO programme and preparing the organization’s calendar of events and activities.
Pakistan is scheduled to host the SCO Council of Heads of State summit in Islamabad in August 2027.
India has not confirmed whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the summit, despite participating in preparations.
