NFR Restores Simaluguri Railway in Record 17 Days After Floods
Heavy floods damaged a railway track in a place called Simaluguri in Assam, India.
The floodwater washed away parts of the track, so trains could not run.
The Northeast Frontier Railway, the company that looks after trains in that area, sent hundreds of workers to fix it.
More than 700 people worked day and night using big machines to repair the track.
They finished the work in just 17 days, which is very fast.
Now some trains are running again, but carefully and step by step.
Many families whose homes are still underwater are living near the railway track.
To keep them safe, the railway is only running diesel trains for now, not electric ones.
This stops anyone from getting hurt by the electric wires above the track.
Some trains are using different roads through other towns until everything is completely back to normal.
The Northeast Frontier Railway restored flood-damaged tracks at Simaluguri and adjoining areas in Sibsagar district within a record 17 days.
Train operations on the restored section have resumed in a phased manner with appropriate safety measures.
Only diesel locomotive-hauled trains are currently operating on the restored section because flood-affected residents and livestock are sheltering near the tracks, posing an electrocution risk from overhead electric equipment.
Local trains including the Guwahati–Dibrugarh Nagaland Express now run via Moranhat, while long-distance trains remain on the diverted route via North Lakhimpur–Rangapara North–Rangiya.
More than 700 NFR personnel worked round the clock with heavy machinery, and special trains are supplementing connectivity for passengers travelling to and from Upper Assam.
