GST turns 10: Council urged to ease compliance with reforms
India has a special tax called GST that businesses pay when they sell goods or services.
This tax recently turned ten years old.
The money collected from GST is now more steady than before.
But the rules for paying this tax are very complicated and take a lot of time.
Small businesses find it specially hard to follow all the rules.
A tax expert named Rahul Renavikar wrote an article about how to make it easier.
He says the GST Council should meet again to improve the tax.
He wants every business to send electronic invoices instead of paper ones.
He also thinks businesses should not need to fill so many forms.
These changes would help businesses save time and money.
India's GST has entered its 10th year, with collections stabilizing after the September 2025 rate rationalization.
The GST Council has not met for more than 10 months; its last meeting was in the first week of September 2025.
The article calls for e-invoicing to be made mandatory for all GST registrants, instead of only those with turnover above Rs 5 crore for B2B and B2G supplies.
It proposes scrapping the e-way bill by including transport details in e-invoices; nearly 800 crore e-way bills had been generated as of June 30.
Reforms suggested include a PAN-based 'one nation, one GSTIN' system and an automatic refund route for inverted duty structure to ease working capital strain.
