The rocket was named GSLV-F17 and was operated by ISRO.

The satellite was placed into the orbit planned for it.

It will observe Earth and collect images and other information.

Officials said the satellite was healthy after reaching orbit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the launch a proud moment for India.

He also said cooperation between ISRO and Indian companies is helping the space programme grow.

The launch was the 19th flight of India’s GSLV rocket family.
