In Gujarat, Hindu, Muslim women donate kidneys to each other’s husbands · indianexpress.com

Two men were very sick because their kidneys had stopped working well.

Their relatives wanted to help by donating a kidney, but doctors said it was not medically possible for them to donate directly to their own family members.

So the two families decided to swap.

A Hindu woman gave her kidney to the Muslim man, and a Muslim woman gave her kidney to the Hindu man.

The doctors checked the bodies of all four people very carefully to make sure the swap would be safe.

The two surgeries happened on the same day at the hospital.

The doctors also talked with both families and the families agreed to the plan.

This type of swap had never been done at that hospital before.

After the surgeries, both men got better and went home.

Now both families are happy and healthy.
