BNCMC launches citywide anti-encroachment drive, warns shopkeepers of fines
Some people in a city called Bhiwandi sell things from small carts and stalls on the roads and footpaths.
Footpaths are the special walking paths for people, and roads are for cars and buses.
When too many stalls are placed there, roads get very crowded and cars cannot move easily.
The city government, called BNCMC, started a big cleanup to fix this traffic problem.
Shop owners are now told they cannot let street vendors set up right outside their shops.
If they do, the shop owner has to pay a fine of ₹10,000.
If it happens again, the shop could even be closed down.
The mayor, Narayan Choudhary, said roads and footpaths belong to everyone and must stay clear.
Many vendors moved their carts away before the officials arrived.
The city hopes traffic will move smoothly again now.

Residents allege some shopkeepers collect ₹200-₹300 per day from hawkers to allow them to operate outside their shops.
Many traders voluntarily removed goods and handcart operators vacated areas before enforcement teams arrived.
