Vigilance Bureau Arrests Kerala Police Officer Over Bribe
A police officer in Kerala was arrested by the state’s anti-corruption agency.
Officials say he allegedly asked a lawyer for Rs 10,000.
The money was allegedly demanded in exchange for copies of documents from an accident case.
The lawyer did not want to pay the money.
Instead, he informed the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau.
Officers then arranged a trap near the Nedumangad police station.
They say the police officer was caught while allegedly accepting the money.
He was expected to appear before a vigilance court.
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested a Grade Senior Civil Police Officer attached to Nedumangad police station.
Officials identified the arrested officer as Biju G B, 53, from Koliyakode in Thiruvananthapuram.
He was allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 from a lawyer for copies of documents related to a road-accident case.
The lawyer reported the alleged demand to the VACB, which then organized a trap operation near the police station.
The accused was to be produced before the Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Court, officials said.
