VACB uncovers corruption in Kerala building permits
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) in Kerala found many problems with how building permits and occupancy certificates are given.
They checked 68 offices and found that some officials might have taken bribes.
They also found that some buildings were being used for business but were registered as homes to avoid taxes.
The VACB will do more investigations and take legal action if needed.
VACB found Rs 45 lakh in suspected illegal transactions related to building permits.
Inspections were conducted in 68 offices across Kerala.
Officials in Kunnamkulam Municipality received Rs 21.5 lakh in suspicious transactions.
Two assistant engineers and other officials in Fort Kochi received Rs 12.69 lakh from contractors.
Unauthorized constructions were regularized without following proper procedures.
