DRDO Chief Foresees Invisible Electronic Security Replacing Physical Fences
B K Das of India’s defence research agency said border security may change a lot in the next 10 years.
He thinks tall fences and other physical barriers may be replaced by electronic systems.
Satellites and space-based tools could help watch and protect important areas.
Computers, networks and artificial intelligence would also play a bigger role.
Controlling radio signals and bandwidth could help security systems work better.
Electronic countermeasures and counter-countermeasures may be used against competing systems.
Das said he is especially proud when soldiers trust equipment made in India.
These ideas were discussed at a security technology exhibition in New Delhi.
DRDO Director General B K Das predicted physical barriers could largely give way to electronic security within the next decade.
He highlighted spectrum dominance, satellites, space-based systems, networks and artificial intelligence as future security tools.
Das said electronic countermeasures and counter-countermeasures would become increasingly important in controlling spectrum and bandwidth.
He said his greatest satisfaction would come from seeing soldiers trust and use indigenous DRDO technology on the borders.
The three-day INDIA FENCE EXPO 2026 is showcasing fencing, surveillance, access-control, drone-detection and counter-drone technologies.

Quotes
B K Das
Director General of Electronics & Communication Systems at DRDO
“What is going forward is going to be spectrum dominance. What is going forward is the satellites and the space objects that are going to do all the jobs which are being done by cutting the wire and getting inside. So, we will be absolutely invisible security around.”

“Fast forward to another 10 years, I think this physical security will be out. What you look forward to is going to be absolute electronic security.”
