Siblings Recreate Banaras Ghats for Seawoods Ganeshotsav Decoration
Two siblings named Deesha and Daksh made a tiny version of the Banaras ghats in their home.
They created it for Ganeshotsav.
The display shows famous ghats, boats, clotheslines and electricity poles.
It also includes a small dhobi ghat.
The children researched Banaras using videos, pictures and online information.
They built the display from materials such as used cartons.
Their Ganesh idol was made with papier-mâché and shadu clay.
The display teaches children about Indian culture and history.
It also reminds people to keep rivers and heritage places clean.
Deesha and Daksh created a miniature Banaras tableau in their Sector 36, Seawoods home.
The installation recreates Manikarnika, Prayag, Dashashwamedh, Chet Singh and Harishchandra ghats.
The roughly 5-foot-wide, 8-foot-tall display took nearly a month to build using research and reused cartons.
Details include boats, electricity poles, clotheslines, a dhobi ghat and a handmade papier-mâché and shadu-clay Ganesh idol.
The tableau promotes cultural learning, heritage preservation and the message: “Keep the ghats clean, keep the rivers clean.”

Quotes
Deepa Dhoot
Mother of the young creators and a source quoted about the tableau’s purpose
“A lot of time went into researching even the smallest details — from the electricity poles and clotheslines to the boats and dhobi ghat. Watching the children take such an interest in the process and then explain what they had learnt to their teachers made us very proud.”

“We wanted the decoration to be more than just a festive setup. The idea was to recreate the atmosphere of the Banaras ghats while helping the children understand the culture, traditions and history associated with them.”
