Assam Floods Remain Serious, More Rain Predicted, Toll at 101

Assam is a state in India where heavy rain during the monsoon season makes rivers spill over their banks.

Right now, more than 112,000 people are affected by floodwater covering their homes and fields.

The floods have hit four districts, and Golaghat is suffering the most.

Weather experts say more thunderstorms and heavy rain are on the way, which could make things worse.

Two rivers, the Dhansiri and the Kushiyara, are flowing dangerously high.

So far this year, 101 people have sadly died in the floods, but no new deaths were reported on this day.

To help, the government has opened 92 relief camps where about 30,000 people can get food, shelter and supplies.

The floods have also damaged more than 10,000 hectares of crops and affected over 31,000 farm animals.

Officials are asking people to stay away from the flooded rivers to stay safe.
