EU fines AliExpress 550 million euros for unsafe, counterfeit goods
The European Commission has fined AliExpress, a Chinese online marketplace, 550 million euros for not doing enough to stop the sale of unsafe and counterfeit products on its site.
This is the largest fine ever given for breaking the EU's Digital Services Act.
Another online store, Temu, was recently fined 200 million euros for similar reasons.
The EU says that the spread of these harmful products is a result of AliExpress not following the rules.
The fine was announced in The Hague, Netherlands.
