India’s Industrial Production Hits 8 Percent as Manufacturing Leads

India’s factories produced much more in August than they did a year earlier.

Overall industrial production increased by 8 percent.

Manufacturing, which makes up most of the industrial index, grew by 9 percent.

Electrical equipment, machinery, and vehicles were among the strongest areas.

Electricity and gas supply also increased significantly.

Mining was the only major sector mentioned that shrank, falling by 5.6 percent.

Production of factory machines and household products rose strongly.

The government also revised how some industrial data is calculated, replacing the Wholesale Price Index with an output price measure for certain items.
