A canal project is bringing Godavari River water to parts of north Andhra Pradesh.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to open the water flow on September 2.

The first release will send 30 TMC ft of water to Anakapalli district.

Officials expect the water to fill 110 tanks.

It could help irrigate 1.48 lakh acres in the district.

Connected river and canal systems may support more farms in nearby areas.

Altogether, about 2,87,320 acres of farmland could receive more reliable irrigation.

Police have made extensive security arrangements for the ceremony.
