IIT Delhi hosts India's first 'Gen Z' post office
The post office at IIT Delhi in Hauz Khas got a big, colorful makeover.
It is now called India's first 'Gen Z' post office.
It used to feel very official and boring, but now it has big glass windows, pink chairs, plants, and even a coffee machine.
Students painted fun pictures on the walls, including landmarks and the Mona Lisa.
The post office does much more than send letters and stamps now.
People can update their Aadhaar cards, open savings accounts, and use other money services there.
It stays open later, until 7 pm on weekdays, so students can visit after class.
About 40 to 50 people come every day now.
The idea was started by a government minister named Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Many more post offices at colleges across India are planned to get the same kind of makeover.
IIT Delhi's Hauz Khas Post Office was redesigned and inaugurated as India's first 'Gen Z' post office last December.
The redesign features glass windows, pink cushioned chairs, potted plants, a coffee machine, and wall art painted by IIT Delhi students.
The initiative is part of Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia's vision and India Post's nationwide plan to revamp 46 campus post offices by December 15, 2025.
Daily footfall has climbed to 40-50 customers, helped by extended hours (9 am to 7 pm Monday-Saturday) so students can visit after lectures.
The office offers Aadhaar, financial and insurance services, India Post Payments Bank, and a philately counter alongside regular mail and parcel services.
Scindia visited the post office in January 2026, and his signature is now part of the office's history.
